In the wind-wrapped pages of 18th-century maritime journals, tales were often told not just of storms and stars, but of the strange and curative flora found on distant shores. Among these was a sharply scented leaf of Eucalyptus, the “Fever Tree” as early apothecaries once called it.
Though not native to the British Isles, Eucalyptus entered the herbal lexicon of healers and herbalists by way of returning sailors — men who bore sprigs of it pressed into waxed pouches, learned from the Aboriginal peoples of Australia who knew its smoke to cleanse and its oil to guard against corruption. By the 19th century, British field hospitals and apothecaries alike prized it as a purifier of air and spirit, using it in tinctures and steam infusions to ward off ailments during the long damp winters.
In certain forgotten corners of Scottish folklore, passed from sea wives to wise women, whispers grew of a spirit called Aeralith — a wind-bound guardian who traveled in the breath of the eucalyptus tree. Said to bless wayfarers and wandering healers, her presence was known by a sudden clearing of the lungs, and the hush of stillness before healing began. Though the story is nearly lost to time, some say she still lingers in the fragrance of the crushed leaf.

Handmade soaps are different than commercial soaps. They cannot hold up under a constant spray of water. Keep your soaps away from the shower spray in a dry ventilated area when not in use. If using a soap dish, use one that allows air to circulate around the soap so it will dry out completely. This will help your bar last longer.
