The Story:
In the high, wind-kissed glens of the Scottish Highlands, where the heather runs riot and the hills hum with quiet lore, there is an old tale of the Cailleach of Ben Aonach — a reclusive shepherd-woman who tended a rare breed of milk goats said to descend from Norse stock. Her goats were not the common stock of lowland farms, but the rare Old Irish Goat, descended—so they said—from beasts left behind by Norsemen storm-wrecked on the coast. Their coats were shaggy, their eyes flint-bright, and their milk so thick and sweet it was called “White Gold” by the crofters.
She was also known for her roses — blooms that miraculously clung to the rocky edge of her croft despite the biting wind and thin soil. No one could say for certain how they grew, but when asked, she would only smile and say, “Where love has walked, even stone will give root to a rose.”
Each spring, as the snow melted and the loch thawed, she steeped petals from her hardy Alba roses in warmed goat’s milk. She would blend this infusion with oils from seeds gathered the season before, and render soap over a turf fire. To her, this was no mere luxury: it was a balm for soothing the skin weathered by peat-cutting or wool-washing.
They called it “The Goat’s Balm” and Highland women passed it from mother to daughter, folded in linen with sprigs of rowan or heather, gifted at handfastings and hearth-blessings. Along with other stones meant to ward off fairies or changelings, a bar was often laid beneath the cradle of a bairn, as a charm of softness and strength.
May Highland Rose remind you that even in the wildest places, beauty can thrive.

HELP YOUR SOAP LAST LONGER!

Handmade soaps are different than commercial soaps. They cannot hold up under a constant spray of water. Keep your soaps away from the shower spray in a dry ventilated area when not in use. If using a soap dish, use one that allows air to circulate around the soap so it will dry out completely. This will help your bar last longer.
