Sweet Almond Oil: Light & Luxurious

Updated May 2025

We at Fair Isle Soap Co love our oils and
butters, and adore what they do for our skin. Sweet Almond Oil is a top contender in our book.  It’s a pale golden oil extracted from pressed almonds and is more than just a delicious addition to marzipan. In our soapmaking world, it’s a cherished ingredient, adding a touch of luxury and a wealth of benefits to our handcrafted bars. Let’s look into the benefits of Sweet Almond Oil.

Moisture Maestro: Dry, flaky skin doesn’t standa chance against sweet almond oil’s potent moisturizing properties. Rich in oleic acid and vitamin E, it acts like a built-in hydrator, locking in moisture and leaving your skin feeling soft, supple, and oh-so-pampered.

Lathers Like a Dream: Forget harsh, stripping suds. Sweet almond oil conjures up a creamy, luxurious lather that cleanses gently without leaving your skin feeling parched. This makes it ideal for sensitive skin types and anyone who craves a spa-like shower experience.

Gentle Giant: Unlike some essential oils, sweet almond oil is a gentle soul. It’s non-comedogenic, meaning it won’t clog pores, and its hypoallergenic nature makes it suitable even for the most delicate skin. Soothe eczema, calm psoriasis, and say goodbye to irritation with this soothing oil.

Versatile: Sweet almond oil isn’t a one-trick pony. It plays well with other oils, blending seamlessly into our soap recipes. We use it to pair with olive oil for extra conditioning, coconut oil for hardness, and shea butter for an extra dose of richness.

Sensory Symphony: Sweet almond oil doesn’t just pamper your skin; it tantalizes your senses. Its subtle, nutty aroma adds a touch of elegance to our unscented soaps, making them as delightful to sniff as they are to use.
(Since Sweet Almond Oil can be a problem for those with nut allergies, only some of our soaps have this beautiful oil. NOTE: for those who are allergic to almonds, it’s wise to steer clear of any soaps with this ingredient).

Soapmaker Tips:

1. Usage Rate

  • Typically used at 5-20% of the total oil weight in a recipe.
  • Higher percentages (above 15%) may soften the bar, so balance it with hard oils.

2. Benefits in Soap

  • Adds moisturizing and conditioning properties.
  • Helps create a mild, gentle lather that’s great for sensitive skin.
  • Contributes to a silky, smooth feel in finished soap.

3. Balancing with Other Oils

  • Pair with hard oils (coconut oil, palm oil, tallow, cocoa butter) for a well-balanced bar.
  • Works well with castor oil for extra lather and stability.

4. Trace & Acceleration

  • Does not speed up trace, making it ideal for intricate designs like swirls.

5. Shelf Life & Storage

  • Has a moderate shelf life of 1-2 years when stored in a cool, dark place.
  • Use an antioxidant like Vitamin E or Rosemary Oleoresin Extract (ROE) to extend shelf life if needed.

6. Special Uses

Can be used for superfatting to enhance skin benefits.

Great in goat milk or luxury soaps for extra conditioning.

Works well in cold process, hot process, and liquid soap formulations.
